Global governance? Is that bullshit or remarkable solution in close future?

The opinions of the article do not necessarily reflect the position of Trajectorya. This post is the result of a co-operative learning exercise developed by participants of the Training Course Getting GLocal: zooming environment (Pärnu, Estonia, November 2009).

I tried to find out an answer on this bother me question. I analyzed all advantages and disadvantages and I finally figured it out the best definition of “global governance” and its usefulness and adjustment to global environment.

Global governance is absolutely not just a global government, which could be a threat to democracy through strict dictatorial, governmental ambitions at the expense of people’s rights, BUT a set of rules and institutions, without which, the world might get stuck in chaos and anarchy. Management of global affairs requires a very strong commitment to democracy grounded in civil society – it should be responsive to the interests of all people, guided by basic ethical values and make organization structure related to the reality of world diversity. So far, global governance has been viewed primarily as intergovernmental relationships, but due to globalization processes, other important actors have to be taken into consideration now. I have in mind non-governmental (NGOs), citizens’s movements, global capital market and mass media. Nations states still remain elementary actors but they are increasingly forced to work with others. Vision of effective global governance challenge people as well as governments to realize that there is no alternative to working together in creating the kind of world we want for ourselves and for future generations.

Vision of global governance is difficult to realize but still possible. To create it needs to be done and fulfilled a lot of factors and just thanks to our common effort we will able to achieve our objective.

Another question is: Do we really need it?…

Possible scenario for the future, from a World of Nations to a World of Regions.

Nations continue to have their autonomy but, considering the fact that Nations have different necessity and demands, in International Organizations a Regional representative could be more suitable.

Examples:

– Europe of Nations -> Europe of Regions (in order to make more concrete and direct actions, save time, save money… – f. e.: Baltic area, Mountain areas, …)

– Community of Independent States (CSI) -> To became similar as European Union of nowadays
